How many times have you run out of ideas or time and end up with that small plastic, impersonal gift card to a mall or a store, and all the while you're wishing you had come up with a more unique gift idea!

A GIFT CARD to a unique and quaint BED AND BREAKFAST is the answer you have been seeking!!! Our gift card is printed on quality half fold card stock and personalized with information that you select to include for your recipient. Be sure to tour our entire Web site to see rooms, rates, amenities, and lots of pictures!

But we don't stop there! We will personalize your Gift Card  to the interests of the gift recipient.
Here are some examples of what can be done:

For the wine lover, we can map out the local wineries and include brochures about each winery and give directions to the best wine store in Oberlin. When your guests arrive they will be presented with a bottle of wine and 2 Hallauer House wine glasses. Why not present the gift card in a wine bucket with a bottle of wine!!

For the history buff , we can map out the local history museums in Oberlin, Wellington, Amherst, Lorain, and Elyria and include brochures about each museum so the recipient can get a taste of history before they come. And of course our Innkeeper is an expert on the Civil War and the Underground Railroad and will tell many stories at breakfast. When your guests arrive, they will be presented with a Civil War era candle mat hand made by a local artist. Why not present the gift in a book on the Civil War!

For the art lover, we can map out a trip to the fabulous Cleveland Museum of Art and our own local nationally acclaimed Oberlin Art Museum. We can also direct them to our FAVA (Firelands Association of Visual Arts) Gallery in downtown Oberlin as well as the Gingko Gallery where they will find items made by local artists and an amazing offering of incredible art supplies. When your guests arrive they will be presented with a small handmade gift of art. Why not present your gift in an art object or an art book.

For the antique lover, we can map out a route of some fabulous local antique shops as well as the famous Jamie's Flea Market (open only on Wednesdays and Saturdays) and the really special resale shop just a half mile away from the B & B! Upon arrival your guests will be presented with a recycle bag to carry home all of their purchases! And while here your guests can enjoy the many antiques at Hallauer House. Present your gift inside or along side a desired antique.

For the biking enthusiast, we can include a map of the wonderful Back Roads and Beaches Bike Tour stretching throughout Lorain County. Or your guests can ride the Rails to Trails Bike Path which extends from Elyria to Kipton with Oberlin being in the middle. More bike paths will be opening next year! If your guests are into cross country biking they would enjoy that course at Findlay State Park just 8 miles south of Oberlin. When your guests are ready to ride we will give them each a small lunch-to-go. Present your gift with a bike water bottle.

For the lover of parks and walks in the park , we can include maps of some of Lorain County's 18 Metro Parks, each one having a different theme and activities. There is the bird watching park, the prairie park, the visitor's center, the equestrian park, the primitive park, the rose garden and beach park, the conservatory park just to name a few. When your guests are ready to hike, we will give them each a small lunch-to-go. An idea for presenting your gift might be in a back pack!

And those are just examples! More ideas good be for the music enthusiast, the theater enthusiast, the adventure enthusiast, the movie enthusiast. If you have a special idea of what you would like, we will work with you to set up the perfect Themed Gift Card Package.

An Evening at the Theater

We are so lucky to live so close to one of the up and coming revitalized cities in the country. I could start naming all the wonderful things going on in Cleveland, if you want to read a whole long list, but perhaps one of the best and most important things is the fantastic theater district. Cleveland has the best theater district second only to New York. Would you believe that Cleveland now has 10 theaters in Playhouse Square, all within the downtown area! We have the Allen, the Hannah, the Ohio, the State, the Palace, the Westfield Studio, the 14th Street, Kennedy's, Second Stage, and the Lab Theater! A variety of productions take place year round. And now many restaurants are moving into the area offering great food for enjoyment before the theater production begins.

It was our great opportunity to attend a theater production at the Palace Theater this past week - the Broadway play, "War Horse." It was fabulous! And the "horses" were unbelievably realistic with the mannerisms and movements of a real horse. The puppeteers were excellent! We had a great time. The Palace is beautiful. Our seats were on the balcony level with an unobstructed view of the stage.

Two upcoming popular productions coming soon are "The Lion King" and "The Book of Morman". We are looking forward to attending both! So what I'd like everyone to realize is that Cleveland is THE PLACE! Why fight the big city congestion when you can vacation in Northern Ohio and see some great theater! Give us a shot at making your day! And remember that Oberlin and Hallauer House B & B are just 40 minutes west of Cleveland. We'd love to  have you stay with us on your trip to the theater! Give us a call!

WINE TOURISM DAY!

Yeah! The first annual National Wine Tourism Day is being celebrated on Saturday, May 11, 2013! Special events around the country are being held that day to honor the grape that brings us "the liquid of the gods!" Wineries, hotels, restaurants, and other wine tourism businesses, like Hallauer House Bed & Breakfast, are offering special events and special deals to celebrate the importance (and fun) of wine tourism.

North Coast Grapevine Tours in Lorain is offering a special tour, visiting 4 wineries, sampling wines at each stop, and having lunch at one of them. We thought it would be great to offer a deal also. If you read our previous post about Inn Rewards, you will see our special deal for guests coming to us from that website. We are extending that deal to anyone who is celebrating WINE and visiting Ohio wineries on May 11, 2013. That deal is: stay with us one or two nights and upon check-in receive a complimentary bottle of Ohio Wine from one of our local wineries and a snack tray of cheese and crackers. And don't forget that May 12 is Mother's Day! Don't you think Mom would just love visiting a few wineries and staying at a B & B to enjoy more fine wine? We only have 2 rooms left so call now to reserve your spot to celebrate wine and mom! Be sure to mention this post from FB or the Blog to get the wine deal. See you soon!

New B & B Directory

A new Bed and Breakfast Directory is now up and running and it is called InnRewards.com.B & B's have come together to encourage people to stay at a  B & B instead of a cookie cutter hotel. B & B's are unique with no two exactly alike anywhere you go. Some are Victorian, some are country, some are city, some are western, some are small, some are large, some have a whirlpool in each room, some have a fireplace, some are historic, some are modern, some are formal, some are informal. And the list goes on!

So to encourage people to try a B & B, this new worldwide website was created to bring Innkeepers together who are offering guests rewards for staying with them. Some are offering percentages off, some are offering a stay of 2 nights get third night free. Some are offering free coffee mugs or wine glasses, some are offering spa products, some are offering baked goods, and we are offering our reward - a COMPLIMENTARY BOTTLE OF OHIO WINE AND A CHEESE AND CRACKER TRAY upon check-in. Check out this link to our page on the website. http://innrewards.com/cgi-bin/dirs.cgi?lv=2&ct=United_States-Ohio.

We plan to change our reward monthly so we can offer a variety of incentives for our guests to enjoy. So if you are looking for a really nice place to stay, check out this website InnRewards.com.  But remember, no matter which B & B you reserve with, you must mention their reward code at the time of booking. Not good to mention it upon your arrival! So we look forward to hearing from you. Give us a call. You know you want to! We'll give you a reward!
