Daytripping!

Yesterday the sun was shinning so brightly that you just wanted to pull out the lounge chair and sun bathe on the pool deck! But unfortuantely it is still the dead of January and the temp was only in the 30's. And if you are like us these days, you are getting a little cabin fever and just itching to see new things. So Joe and I decided that a day trip was in order and after much discussion we decided to drive down to Amish country in Holmes County since we hadn't been for a couple of years..
We didn't get started out until 12:30 and then decided to take the 'l o n g w a y" down to Kidron finally arriving at Lehman's Country Store at 2:00. And what a place it is! And it has expanded! There you can buy gas refrigerators, new 'old-fashioned' gas stoves, 'old fashioned' electric wall ovens, jams and jellies, unique kitchen utensils, books, toys, tools and farm implements, lamps, woodburning stoves, and even eco-friendly items to name just a few! It is known that Holloywood movie producers have visited there to get period pieces for their productions! After spending some time at Lehmans, we kept heading south til we arrived in Berlin were we had a late lunch/early dinner and then visited a fabulous quilt shop where we purchased a new quilt for the Union Room.
Unfortunately, being Jan., many of the stores closed early or for the entire month - it's called Idle time! And the tourist traffic is very sparse! No traffic jams! So we were out of luck to do much more shopping since by this time it was well past 4:00. So we headed for Millersburg and the quick route home to Oberlin. The next time we go, we will definitely begin early in the morning, take the quick route to begin with, and start where we left off in Berlin.

But for anyone needing to get out for a daytrip, keep in mind this wonderful Ohio county and all there is to see and do there. For more information visit the Holmes County website. There are many fantastic looking B & B's to stay at or you can always stay here in Oberlin and take a day trip south on the quick route! Trust me, you won't be disappointed!
