Where Has the Time Gone?!

I'm back and all I can say is "Where does the time go?!" I cannot believe that I last posted on April 15 and it is now Nov.18! I guess the old saying is true -"The older you get, the faster the time goes!" I apologize for the break in communication and hope to do better in the future.

Technology is changing so quickly that now Blogging is being passed by Facebook which is being passed by Twitter which is being passed by who 'know's what!' And MySpace seems to be at the bottom of the heap! So much for our MySpace page! We recently went to a forum on these new communication venues and I have spent some of the last few months getting started on a business Facebook Page and I'm working on starting up on Twitter. So we invite you to become a Facebook FAN of Hallauer House Bed & Breakfast! Please join us to post comments, reviews, questions, photos, links, etc. But bear with me because us older folks are a little slower on the learning curve! Now we not only have a website to update but also the Blog, MySpace, Facebook, and soon - Twitter!!!! Where do you young people find the time???!!!

A lot has happened in Oberlin, in Lorain County, in Northeast Ohio, at Oberlin College, and here at Hallauer House B & B over the last few months. But why cover news and happenings that are over. Let's move forward and go with news and events to come.

Over the last 6 months 2 new wineries have opened up in Lorain County, the Oberlin Apollo theater has reopened under new management and is all new inside, seniors at the college have moved one step closer to graduating, the new Jazz center is almost competed, there's a new bagel shop in town, recitals are going on, we've added a fitness center at the B & B for you to use, and it is raining in Oberlin! So I see that I have lots of topics to cover so stay tuned! I will try my best to do a weekly or better update to the Blog, Facebook, and Twitter!

Blog link from new website!

Thanks to our 4th daughter, Emily, our new website was uploaded over the weekend. We hope you like it! I added a direct link to our Blog from the navigation bar so that we could keep in touch about Inn specials, happenings at Oberlin College and in the Oberlin community. I started the Blog back in January but took time off from it to work on the website and learn Dreamweaver, which wasn't easy! Many times I wanted to quit but kept going back and trying again. We could have hired a professional web design firm but where's the fun in that! Wanted to give it a shot so if you like what you see, let me know. If you don't, then I guess we'll have to go shopping for a pro!

Because operating costs keep going up, we found it necessary at this time to raise our rates by $20.00 per night IF you stay only 1 night. BUT--- We are giving a discount rate to stays of 2 or more nights. Be sure to check the Reservation page on the website for complete pricing details. A lot of B & B's are going to 2 night minimums especially on weekends, but we chose to go with NO minimums and just charge a bit more for 1 night to help offset the higher cost of cleaning and maintenance on one night stays. You still will receive a full, fantastic breakfast, and no extra taxes added on! We know you'll have a great experience, whether you stay 1 or more nights. So give us a try!
And through the months of Dec. thru Feb. we will be offering other discounts so check back on the Blog for all the details.

Oberlin College is a busy place hosting many summer youth camps. Parent's are busy driving to and from, dropping their children off and then picking them up a week or so later. So parents, why not take a mini vacation and stay a few days at the B & B! Relax and unwind before making the long drive home. The swimming pool is really great! Warm and refreshing. Sit on the mini beach with your feet in the sand and the sun overhead. In the evening, put a fire in the chiminea and sit back and watch the moon and the stars. And anyone looking for a summer camp for your child for next summer, check Oberlin College and see what they have to offer.

Bye for now. Next installment soon!

Muffins, Mutterings, and Musings

"Melt in your mouth goodness!"
" Divine!"
" Fantastic!"
" Scrumptious!"
" Outstanding!"
" Best I've ever had!"

Just a few of the comments guests have made to describe our breakfast muffins. So therein lies the reason for the first word in our Blog title. The other two words came about because they are defined as thoughts and expressions and they also form an alliteration with Muffins! So welcome to "Muffins, Mutterings, and Musings!" Smell the aroma! Or come and enjoy one in person!

Welcome to the 1830 Hallauer House Webblog

The "Gift of Love" by Nadama from her CD Lover's Lounge is playing on XM Radio on Direct TV, the sun is brightly shining and it certainly does not feel like tomorrow is the first day of Winter! It is almost 50 degrees here in Northeast Ohio! But the Christmas tree is up and all is ready for the big day on Monday.

If you have visited our web site, www.hallauerhousebnb.com, you already know a couple of things about us - that both Joe and I are retired public school teachers and we're both from a food background, bakery and restaurant respectively.

Many years ago, after visiting a not so great B & B, we both agreed that we could run a B & B and do a much better job. So we proceeded to find the perfect house, launch our kids, retire, and just 4 years ago we welcomed our first guests into the 1830 Hallauer House Bed and Breakfast.

Through our web site and this web blog, we want to offer our guests and perspective guests the opportunity to see our B & B (bear with me while I learn how to get pictures uploaded!), learn a little about us, the history of this house, some US History about the Civil War era, and to explore the offerings of Oberlin College, the Oberlin Conservatory, the Oberlin City Community, Lorain County, and Northeast Ohio. And maybe we'll touch on some important things about the state of Ohio like "Go Ohio State Buckeyes!"

So come along with us as we begin our journey, weaving in and out of restaurants, museums, parks, theatres, shops, and oh so much more! Visit us in person, on our website, or continue to read our blog. But whichever you go to you will 'enter as strangers but leave as friends.'
